It is very simple to sync your company Outlook email, calendar and contacts if your company has an exchange server and uses SSL certificates.  To set up your exchange email account in Pre, you need:

  1.  your company incoming mail server address, typically https://mail.companyname.com/exchange,
  2.  your login name (the one you use in the morning to log in),
  3.  your login password (the one you type in the morning to log in),
  4.  your company email address (yourname@company.com)
  5.  your company domain (typically your company name)

Once you have that information you set up your email account at Pre:

  1.  Select the mail envelope in the first screen
  2.  open the email tab on the left hand side corner of the Pre screen
  3.  select preferences and accounts
  4.  scroll down and select Add an Account
5   open the email tab again
  6.  select manual set up
7   select in  mail type Exchange (EAS)
  8.  write your company email address
9   write the company incoming mail server address
  10.  write the company domain name
  11.  write your company password
  12. select Sign in

The Pre will connect wirelessly to your company server and sync the calendar, emails and contacts.

NOTE:  At this stage, you could only sync with a company exchange server that uses  SSL certificates.  Your company uses SSL certificates if the copmpany web site begins with https://... and uses a letter s after http.

I heard that in a few weeks Palm will update the software to allow syncs with non SSL exchange servers, http:// withot the letter s at the end.

Hope it helps.

Very informative, TAndujar.  +1

TAndujar, great write up. Thanks!

Sadly I get an SSL certificate error when I follow the directions.

the error message that I get says "The mail server requires security policies that are not supported"

After further research with palm, I found that Palm didn’t implement the PIN and remote wipe features that are normally included with the ActiveSync connector so if the Exchange account requires a PIN (Security code used on the mobile device) then the Exchange connector will not work.

Palm claims that they are working on correcting this.  Not sure who long it will take.

I'm in the same boat jdub.

I think what we are both really looking for is this:

1)  hard wire connection to pc
2)  have pre sync directly with outlook client, not the exchange server since it's locked down.

What I did find is that I was able to export a csv file of my appointments from outlook.  So now the question is can you import a csv file into the pre somehow?
