Hello all! I have been reading/lurking this forum since buying the palm pre a few months ago and have never needed to post but have gleened a TON of info by reading other posts.

So  today I spent 7 hrs and change troubleshooting with verizon regarding my pre specifically with the hotspot feature.

It worked no problems until this am and would not work with any of my laptops (3) all of them recognize the connection and are able to establish connection with limited access.

Verizon's answer after a few hours was to exchange it for a new phone....same problem.

Then they put me in touch with Palm and honestly the call center out of the country tried but it was beyond their experience or knowledge I was transfered to the US call center (i will share that direct number so no one has to go through what I have been through today)

I am convinced this is a simple setting that everyone is overlooking...or something major has changed and can not be identified.

Yes  the hotspot is turned on...lol but seriously I wish it was something that simple.

Under preferences  voice network is set to automatic and Data Roaming is set to Enabled..to rule out the obvious.

anyone got any ideas?  I would appreciate any ideas at this point....it has been a long unproductive day

thank you in advance.

My Palm Pre started doing the very same thing last night.... and now I can't get anything to connect to it.   I refuse to deal with this issue so am planning on returning the phone and cancelling the service...

I have used the Palm Pre about 4 months now for complete internet access for laptops and my home PC.  I even play Multiplayer shooter games at 125 fps (Urban Terror to be exact). It has worked great except the battery life.  Just like you, it has gotten a glitch this week.  Mine connects fine but constantly disconnects and reconnects and when I ping google.com it has about a 50% packet loss.  This allows reasonable internet browsing but severely hampers streaming media and gaming.
Now I did notice that a week ago my Palm automatically updated its software, that is when the problem began so I suspect that the update is not working correctly.  Or could it be working as designed?  If the number of people using the hotspot became excessive, Verizon could purposely cause a high packet loss to cause users to stop utilizing high bandwidth things like streaming video, audio or games.  Not that I am conspiracy minded, but ....
Or maybe the Palm Pre's just fail after so much hotspot use, the phones do get rather hot which could damage the circuitry.

BTW .. I am  posting this from my laptop/palm pre hotspot. Ping google right now: Used to be 0% loss and fast. Notice that the packets that were lost result in a 0ms time for a LOWER average ping (87ms) rather than the 387ms PLUS the time that the first three timed out.

Pinging google.com [72.14.204.104] with 32 bytes of data

Request timed out.

Reply from 72.14.204.104: bytes=32 time=350ms TTL=47

Ping statistics for 72.14.204.104:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 1, Lost = 3 (75% loss)
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 350ms, Maximum =  350ms, Average =  87ms
