After I got the update last week, my phone does not make any sound when i receive a new text message. The sound is turned on in the setting area, but still no sound.
I did find that if I turn the system sounds On, i will get a sound notification, but I do not want all the system sounds on. Any suggestions?

Try a soft-reset (SYM + ORANGE BUTTON + R)!

Same thing happens to me but only sometimes, regardless of the reset. It's pretty annoying.

I tried the soft reset and it did not fix the problem. I can fix it by turning the system sounds on, but I do not want all the system sounds on.
Funny thing, the phone will vibrate if I turn it to vibrate mode, but still no sounds when vibrate is off.

Check the volume in the sounds and ringtones control center, and make sure system sounds are on.

I have intermittent problems with message sounds too since the new update.  Sometimes I hear one, other times nothing.  I was going to change my ringtone and tried listening to a couple of MP3 tones I created.  There was no sound on those either.  After hitting the play button a couple of times, the ringtones played ok.  Decided not to change the ringtone in case there is a problem with the new update.

My ringer volume is turned off, and I cannot get it turned back on. when I try to use the side volume button, the ringer icon has a slash though it. I have tried restarting, haven't yet done soft reset, but it is puzzling. I can get all of the other sounds, but incoming calls only vibrate.
