I have tried on numerous occasions to charge my Pre on the car charger.  It never has worked.  Is it supposed to work?

Are you using Sprint Navigation. It uses the battery faster than the charger can charge it. Other than that, my Pre has a hard time recognizing it's plugged into the mobile charger unless I plug into the pre before I plug the adapter into the lighter slot.

I don't know if I am using Sprint Navigation.  So far, my experience with the Pre has been baffleing.  That aside, I will try your suggestion of pulling in the Pre before I plug the charger into the vehicle recepticle.

Which charger do you have?  I have the sprint one with the logo lit up on the front, I leave it plugged in all the time and never have an issue when I charge.

 The one that is sold at Best Buy is Palm Part number 3437. This unit is made for the Treo 800w and the Treo Pro it is not made for the Pre. It does not put out enough power to charge the Pre while running GPS navigation.

The one for sell at palmpreforum.org is Palm part number 3453 which is designed for the Palm Pre and will charge the Pre while running GPS navigation and streaming music.

I purchased my car charger at sprint and it works great, it might just be the brand you decided to purchase.
