PC world has a decent artilce, but I thought the comments from acutal users was more informative, so I am posting this link.  If you read one of the reviews the user states that he can even type in different languages on the device, which I found interesting to know.  I probably won't ever use it, but from a business standpoint, I bet it's a great tool.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/166274/pre_hunt_in_search_of_the_elusive_new_palm_device.html

I wanted to point out comment #17 .  Here's an exerpt from the comment:
"I also type international characters quite a lot, and on my Treo755p cell phone, I use the ALT button to get at them.
However, the letters variations are limited. For example, I can't type Russian or full Vietnamese on it. Nor Chinese characters.

But on the Pre, if you hit 'sym' button once, you get extra characters. AND, if you hit it twice, a screen keyboard shows up
with fully internationalized characters list. So, I guess the Pre will be handy for me to study Russian, since my work place
are mostly expatriate Russian IT developers."

I've decided that I'm going to read more user's comments from here on out, because they seem to be the MOST informative and accurate since they are using the phones full-time.

Hope this helps everyone.

P.S.  I still haven't gotten mine.

I used the Pre probably late summer last year - testing it...Ended up sending it back - but more due to the fact that I couldn't get out of my AT&T contract as early as I thought...but I did have issues of the phone locking up, just shutting down and having to be restarted - couple times a day sometimes...battery life not so hot...

Just wondering, if upgrades have been made and/or newer releases of the phone are already improved from last year's batches? I see the last post here in the review sections seems to be from June - any newer reviews out there? My contract is about up - and DH and I are considering swtiching to spring from AT&T (Sprint is so much cheaper - and a lot more perks) - I want another palm product - but not sure the Pre is gonna hold up like my 680 did - I've had it for 2 years now -and it is one TOUGH phone. Body is cracked, scratched, been dropped numerous times...and the thing just keeps going...

Hey Joy -

This is an OLD post!  Let me give you updates on what I know based on the Pre unit I have.  I got my phone 4 days after release and still have the same phone.  Recently, however, my phone did start exhibiting the same problems yours did out of the gate.  I took mine to the Sprint store with slow or no touch screen responsiveness, locking up, shutting down, and getting hot as a baked potato. When the tech took the back off of the phone he immediately said "oh you have the Japan battery, and your phone is missing the tab that holds in the battery".  He went on to explain that the first batteries that were used created a lot of problems for a lot of Pre users and that he was surprised mine lasted so long.  He said that the original design of the phone did not have a tab that kept the battery from moving around (causing auto shut offs) and they have since rectified that design flaw by adding the tab.  They were able to add the tab to my unit, and replaced my battery (for free) with a battery that they are now getting from a Korean manufacturer.  There have been lots of updates to the phones functionality (next month we get flash and video recording) and the app catalog is reaching 1200 apps I think (and some really good free ones, to boot).  I know what you mean by the Treos!  They really were some of the toughest phones ever built.  I had a 650 that was dropped numerous times from the drivers lap  (mine) of an Expedition and was like a Timex-took it's licking and kept on ticking.  I have dropped my pre a few times (from the same distance) and it's got a few side dents, but its still working. The charger door finally fell off (do those ever last on ANY phones?) but and the screen has got a few scratches on it.  Other than that, it's working well.  I have to admit it would have been nice for Palm to have used more of the metal components like they did on the Treos for durability, but I believe using more plastics kept the price of the Pre down (just my reasoning).  After almost a year, would I have bought the phone knowing what I know now?  ABSOLUTELY.  It is by far the best phone I have ever owned.  I have picked up other phones and the mere ability to multitask keeps me with the Pre.  It really is a great OS and I don't think I'd ever go back to anything else.  I see more and more people with the pre, and I think that it really is geared more toward the adult who has a busy life and lots going on and needs to deal with it all at once.  Hope this helps!
