Just like The Invisibleman said,it is all about copy and pasting. There's really no need for you to type anything. There is a detailed step-by-step instruction on youtube from a guy (i forgot his name) that guides you, starting from when you download the SDK and virtualbox. Also, like The Invisibleman said, once you have completed the initial setup (note that you have to enable developer mode for this initial setup), it is preety easy to gain root access there after. because all you need to do is to find the putty.exe, and log in. and you'll have root access.

this is so easy if you follow the instructions step-by-step (they even show you how it is supposed to look when you complete each step)...i'm a noob when it come's to computer programming, but i was able to do a whole lot of pretty sweet stuff to my pre (go to the palm pre discussion of this forum and see my post), and now i am confident because i now have an idea what i am doing....all thanks to the people that make the step-by-step guides.

Go to the launcher.

Type

upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart

Click the app that shows up and enable developer mode. It will restart the phone.

isnt this the cheat code for some classic video game, like mortal combat or something??

All right sir.

Just follow these instructions to install the optware packages: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Portal:Accessing_Linux

Then you will be able to find the my tether app and the flashlight app on palmpreforum.org homebrew forums. Each with their own methods on installing.

I think I'm a little confused.  I place my Pre in developer mode and then went to the link you have listed.  Step one sends me to a new page with the 3 choices for downloading sdk.  This is where I get a little lost.  At this point do I download the windows version to my PC since I run a windows operating system or do I run the Linux version right onto my phone from accessing the link through Sprints services?  I guess there is even the chance of the Linux version to my PC!  I would assume if it was to my PC there would be some kind of drag and drop procedure.  When I tried downloading the windows version to my PC it stopped early and could not complete, if this is the proper procedure then it could be due to my Windows XP is only good up to SP1.

Might be a good idea to update to sp3 anyway, but not sure if that is the issue.  You definately need the windows version and NOT the Linux, you cant install it directly to the phone, needs to be on the computer you are going to use to access the phone.
