Preware is a program that will read homebrew app feeds, themes, and patches from multiple sources (Precentral, Prethemer, Webos Internals, etc) and install them on device.

In my personal opinion it is the best and easiest way to find and install anything to your Pre.

If you don't already have an on device installer you'll need to download the program webOS Quick Install to your computer.

Step 1 Download and Run the latest release of WebOS Quick Install (Attached)

You'll also need:

Java 1.6
For Mac OS X, once you've installed Java 1.6, run /Application/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences. Then click and drag Jave SE 6 to top of both list, and exit the program. This will set Java 1.6 as the default version to use.

Novacom
You can manually install Novacom by going in WebOSQuickInstall and in the menu File->Options, then press the "Attempt Novacom (re)installation" button.

In order to make your Pre "Quick install ready" you'll need to enable developer mode. Use the Konami code in universal search. (Just start typing from the home screen Up,Up,Down,Down,Left,Right,Left,Right,B,A,Start and select the icon that comes up. Flip the switch to On and your device will reboot. Then connect your Pre to your computer via USB and select Just Charge.

Step 2 Press the third button down on the right Looks Like This

Step 3 Choose WebOS Internals Feed (all) from the dropdown list at the top Looks Like This

Step 4 Select Package Manager Service

Step 5 Press DOWNLOAD

Step 6 Press INSTALL

Step 7 Press the third button from the bottom again like the last time when you installed the Package Manager Service

Step 8 Choose WebOS Internals Feed (all) from the dropdown list at the top. (Again where the package manager service was found)

Step 9 Select Preware from the list

Step 10 Press DOWNLOAD

Step 11 Press INSTALL

That's it!

Now to get to the Patches you'll need to download the "autopatch-feed"

This will add "Availible Patches" to your main list. It is here that you can choose from a list of available patches.

The credit for the webOS Quick Install goes to Jason Robitaille from Precentral.

I got my month view as default to work. Look at the patches again and see if you can find it.

once you tap download it will show a progress bar. Once it is done downloading click the button that says "close". Now you should be back at the main screen for quickinstall, all you have to do now is the button that says "install" and it should show another progress bar. Remember, you have to do this for the package manager AND preware. Once the progress bar is done you should have preware on your phone.

Can it be downloaded to your comp, then transferred via USB? If so, where would I put it?

It doesnt work like that.  It needs to be installed, just like a program would be installed on your computer.  Read the instructions in the first post.

The instructions say download the file and run it...I can't run it.  Its not an .exe or anything.  When I double-click after downloading it asks which program I want to run it with.  Like a file that runs only by a certain program (IE, its an excel file, but I have no excel installed on my computer) that I don't have maybe?  If so, what other program do I need to download?
