Palm was cranking out updates pretty quickly when the Pre first came out, but it's been a while since we've had anything new. Has anyone heard anything about upcoming updates and changes?

Even Palm's Twitter has been much quieter lately (though I did miss that chat they had the other day).

I really hope, though, in future updates, they won't include any more programs that can't be deleted. NASCAR and NFL are great for people who love them, but I will never use them and don't want anymore of these programs cluttering up my 8GB!

I'm guessing mid to late September. The Pre is pretty stable and most of the key glitches(I'm talking about important things...not flash, video, and apps) have been corrected...somewhat. That is why they aren't rushing these things out anymore. They don't have to...except to please the restless owners who crave updates. I'm expecting updates to be around every 2 months. For those expecting updates every week or two...please don't. You are only setting yourself up for disappointment.

My guess is October.. right before a possible UK (maybe even Europe?) launch. But we are all just guessing Wink

I disagree with that. I think there are some glitches in email syncing that definitely wouldn't hurt Palm to have fixed. And as much as I love my Pre, there are a lot of options available on other phones that aren't available on the Pre. Yes, it's version 1, which explains a lot, but if Palm wants to stay competitive, they'll have to fix these gaps, and soon.

After all, there are so many phone companies, and they're all cranking out new phones all the time.

Yeah before I upgraded to the pre I had a samsung a900 which is old but I could personalize evry type of notification on the phone. Take video. Hell I can't even forward text messages wit my pre. Kind of disappointed with palm rushing the pre and now we have wait around for updates to solve simple stuff that is standard with phones that came out in early 2000 which is kind of embarrassing. Don't get me wrong I like my pre but it was a bit of a let down when I  bought it and 2 weeks laater my screen cracked for no reason. tand now my pre is now slowing down and I can't figure out why. I don't have but like 1 gig of memory taken ip. But that's on a whole other topic. I really hope the next update isn't some shabby app and tone modification like the last update, I really don't care for the muffled tone and nfl live cuz I could have put that myself. Well I guess I'm just ranting now so I'll stop. Angry

You disagree with me saying that there are still glitches? I didn't say all of them had been fixed. There are still a few out there that they will fix, but they are not absolutely critical to the phone. And the other phones...yes most of the smartphones on the market currently offer more than the Pre. This is well known. There were absolutely no promises made by Palm as far as when updates would be released and what they would eventually have. (Most)Everyone knew what they were getting in terms of features and hardware when they got the phone. Unfortunately, due to message boards and other 'news' outlets, people had also had empty promises of 'features to come'. I think the problem with this phone is it's potential. Most people know what it's capable of, and everyone wants it now.

Blacklight has probably the best guess for the next update. Palm are probably hard at work making sure it will work in Europe. Much like the update right before the Canadian release. Anything before late Sept, early Oct would be a pleasant (and welcome)surprise.

Right now, the phone works great for what I need it for. If it didn't, I would have dropped it for a Blackberry in an instant.  If a year goes by and they haven't improved it...then I will probably dump it.

I really hope the next update isn't some shabby app and tone modification like the last update
It also fixed some major EAS support issues....

Unomile is right, they have lots of other things to work on as well. There might be another update within the next few months but I'm not holding my breath. Btw unomile did you mean late Sept, early Oct? It kinda threw me off when I read late Sept, early Aug.

I have added a bunch of patches to my pre and am wondering if what i read on the wiki is true about having to remove the patches when an update does come out.  Is this true?  And what would happen if I just updated (whenever the update does finally come out) w/o first removing them?
