Yeah I saw that thread on palmpreforum. I actually sideloaded the battery app this morning and it has given me conflicting information on my OEM battery, that it is 1186 mAh, 1183 mAh, 1178mAh, then back up to 1183 mAh.

it may be that you haven't cycled your battery correctly, i use to have this problem on my nextel phones, try draining the battery all the way to 5-10% then charge it back up once every half a month

but anyways how excited are you about getting this battery, i sure know i am.

now i just need to make a bit more cash and buy a touchstone, my friends work at sprint and there giving me a free "used" touchstone back

I went to go get it today but his friend gave the "used" touch stone back to someone else

assholes Cheesy just waiting for that call for when they get another one in, then to buy an actual touchstone from palmpreforum or ebay....

Actually, you really arent supposed to do this with lithium-ion batteries.  You are supposed to charge them early and often.

Stringbean is right, you really are supposed to try and keep these batteries topped off as much as possible. Unfortunately given my daily use and that occasionally find myself away from a charger I go deep into my battery a lot, thus the need for the extended battery in the first place. I am really looking forward to this new battery and hopefully it wont let me down. It is all about the waiting game at this point as I am waiting on a slow boat from China... no pun intended. And I think it might be about time for me to get my hands on one of them touchstones as well, I kept telling myself it is an unnecessary luxury but it is just too cool and tech geeky for me to avoid any longer lol.

There is a sticky at the top of the Pre Discussion page about charging a Li-ion battery.  Here's the actual detail:

Like many rechargeable batteries, lithium-ion batteries should be charged early and often. However, if they are not used for a long time, they should be brought to a charge level of around 40%–60%
Lithium-ion batteries should not be frequently fully discharged and recharged ("deep-cycled"), but this may be necessary after about every 30th recharge to recalibrate any electronic charge monitor (e.g. a battery meter). This allows the monitoring electronics to more accurately estimate battery charge.[27] This has nothing to do with the memory effect.
Li-ion batteries should never be depleted to below their minimum voltage, 2.4 V to 3.0 V per cell.
Li-ion batteries should be kept cool. Ideally they are stored in a refrigerator. Aging will take its toll much faster at high temperatures. The high temperatures found in cars cause lithium-ion batteries to degrade rapidly.
Li-ion batteries should not be frozen [50] (most lithium-ion battery electrolytes freeze at approximately −40 °C; however, this is much colder than the lowest temperature reached by household freezers).
Li-ion batteries should be bought only when needed, because the aging process begins as soon as the battery is manufactured.[27]
When using a notebook computer running from fixed line power over extended periods, consider removing the battery[51] and storing it in a cool place so that it is not affected by the heat produced by the computer.

AKA discharging and recharging them will damage them. Keep it charged up 100% as often as you can. They do NOT suffer from memory effects. Research before you lsiten to these people about how to "train"your battery .Their is no way to "train" the battery becasue its programed to do one thing. Hold a charge. Just keep it charged follow the other options to keep battery usage down and you will be fine. Till the 1500 mah battery or larger comes out you will just have to deal with it. PDA phones suck ALOT of power so get used to it.

well i guess 20% may be to low but on average a pre user charges 2 times a day am i right? and every 30th charge you have to drain ....

15 * 2 = 30

every2 weeks you should drain to 40

The only benefit to discharging and recharging is to keep the accuracy of the battery meter, it doenst do anything for the battery life or charge, in fact it can make it worse.  I would rather have the battery meter off a bit and get better battery life.

so when should you drain the battery?

this probably explains why my pres battery was dieng faster, i thought maybe there was a memory leak in one of the homebrew tweaks i installed.

I never intentionally drain my battery.

I´ve got Mugen 1400 battery for 2 weeks and I am quite OK with it. Haven´t done any measurements yet, though.
