I Have had (3) Three Palm Pre's in 11 months. Currently the one I own has major battery life issues and shuting off at random time problems. The Pre heats up big time when I'm using it. The phone will sometimes show a "?" on the battery charging Icon. I have a brand new battery and new charger from sprint and it still does it but they refuse to  swap the phone out because the diagnostics they run show nothing wrong with the phone. Any insight? I'm bout to throw my pre through sprint's corporate headquarter's window! Cry

I totally understand where you are coming from. TRUST ME...You're not alone. Unfortunately, I've had 4 Pres. I first brought it when it first came out on Sprint last year. I was all into Preware and tweaks. Now I could care less. I brought an extended battery because I needed the battery to last AT LEAST a day. $60 later, the extended battery life is starting to have a shortened lifespan, almost just as short as the original battery. I've been through it all. There are many people who have had multiple Pres. It has great software, but it's just screwy. I'm waiting for the EVO 4G. Actually, i can't wait to dump my Pre for this Android phone. Me and my Pre have had a love/hate relationship and now it"s time to end. Sorry, I know this doesn't help much, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not the alone Sad

I never had any issues with my Pre.(knock on wood) It is one of the earlier ones and has worked fine from day one. I will say as the updates were installed battery life did improve.

You can extend your battery by making your Pre work less, for example:

1. Keep Wifi "on", and log on at places you go that use Wifi; Evdo uses battery more (heats up).
2. Turn off your auto email send/receive and manually download when you are ready (Or less frequent).
3. Lower the screen brightness.
4. Turn off apps or card when not in use.
5. Use one minute to turn off the screen.
6. Use airplane mode if there is no Sprint service in the area.

7. When convenient, keep your battery plug in and fully charged as much as possible to extend the usable life of the battery; batteries degrade quickly if cycled often.

I have the same problems with my Pre...it shuts off randomly and the battery usually only lasts about 8 hrs (of barely using it) after being fully charged. The biggest problem I have among a few others though is that it overheats and starts going on the fritz out of the blue - even sometimes when on the charger. I don't know what's wrong with it, but I've had 2 Pres since the day they came out and I wish sometimes I would have waited for the HTC I like or the Android or something. I'll try some of those tips though before I completely give up.
