Instinct is cheaper and some people say just as good.  What do you all think.

don't do the instinct - you will be disappointed!  i had the instinct for the past year, and the pre has an unlimited number of features that blow the instinct away!

hope that helps.  i'd be willing to do a side-by-side comparison if you're interested.  let me know.

This forum is full of people who had the Instinct and couldn't wait to get rid of it and replace it with a Pre (myself definitely included). Honestly, I was very disappointing with the Instinct and while I do have some gripes with the Pre, it is such a world ahead of the Instinct in so many ways.

Pre >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Instinct.

Just to put it in perspective....  Grin

Search around, there are plenty of people who feel the same way.

I also had the Instinct before running to the Pre.  Don't waste your energy in the Instinct.  A few good features on the Instinct opposed to endless good feature on the Pre.  Don't forget the Pre is still being worked on by Palm and updates are coming...the Instinct hasn't released a problem fixing update.......well ever.

Lol, I think the answers are pretty clear, and we are not biased here.

IF you are looking for an alternative take a look at HTC Hero or Blackberry, but in my opinion the Pre is still ahead!

(note: just realised the Hero isn't available in the US yet, but should be soon. I've played about 30 minutes with the HTC, it's a great device but even without having the possibility to play around with the Pre, I think Palm has done a better job with WebOS.. )

I played with my co-workers HTC MyTouch 3G on TMobile, and really wasn't that impressed.  I kept trying to do stuff and multi task like I do on my PRE, and it just felt really limited.

Yeah it's not as easy, but the Hero is different and you get used to it. It's actually really a good smartphone, HTC has done a good job covering up Android. Still, I prefer the Pre Wink

I would agree with the other posters here that the Pre is much better than the instinct.  I too had it for about a year, although i did enjoy the instinct.  It depends on what you are using it for.  I didn't have a big need for a smart phone so I didn't get a blackberry or something like that.  Instead I got the instinct which is a little more of a multi-media phone.  THe instinct is a bit bigger and bulkier though that was one thing I never really liked about it.  I think the big thing the pre has over the instinct is the adaptability.  It can do most of the things the instinct can do but with the ability to update it, it will have the ability to all the things and more.  I would strongly suggest the Pre before any other phone but remember to look at what you are going to use it for and there is a small chance that it might be the instinct.

If you are going to use it for a coaster, door stop, Frisbee or toilet paper...The instinct is your phone.
