I've wanted a Pre for a while now (my current phone is a POS Motorola i580 on Nextel) and I'd really like something more highspeed.  Is there a way to use the phone as a 3g modem connected to my PC?  I've heard Sprint disables it.

Verizon offers use of the Pre Plus as a mobile hotspot.  There are non-app store apps that open it up for use on Sprint, altho have no personal experience with those.  Haven't really needed it personally as if am not @ home or work can simply search and use internet on the pre itself for all am interested in!

Yes...

I have it and use it quite often.  It works like a charm.

It's a homebrew (unofficial) app called "Mobile hotspot".

FYI:

I heard that Sprint consider a 5G download/mo as "unlimited".  I don't know...I've only gotten as high as 2G since I alwas have wifi.

I have tried it on my Pre with My Tether and the performance is horrific.

Hey i would share As I know the Palm Pre won't support tethering yet. I bought a MiFi with an O2 data flat to connect my Archos to the internet. The MiFi is half the size of the Palm. It's battery run up to 5 hours using UMTS (7.2mbit). And you can insert a micro sd card to get something like a NAS device (but only web access is supported yet). So, maybe you want to give it a try.
hope this helps u..
thanks.....
